A 27 year old woman, Aisha Ishola has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing gold jewelries worth N2.5. Ishola is a staff of SISI Textiles Enterprises, Lagos as a sales manager. The stolen jewelries belongs to a Lagos businessman, Afeez Oshodi Glover.
A Police source alleged that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island ordered his men led by SGT. Miracle Ikyav to arrest the suspect following a complaint by Glover.
Ishola was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on a two count charge of felony to Wit. stealing.
Police Counsel, Chinedu Njoku told the Court in charged No H/2Q/2020 that the accused committed the offence on 18 May, 2020 at Martins Street, Lagos Island, Lagos.
Njoku informed the court that the complainant reported that he bought some textile materials from the accused and entrusted it in her care with 121.2 grams of gold jewelries to help him send it to a customer in the U.S.A by courier, but that the accused allegedly stole the gold jewelries and send only the textile materials to the recipient.
Njoku further told the Court that during investigation, the accused insisted that she sent the textiles materials with the gold jewelries to the recipient in the U.S.A, but that when the accused led the Police to the Courrier Company that sent the items to the recipient to confirm her claims, the management of the Courrier firm displayed the manifest it used in the transactions before the Police to peruse, where it was discovered that the gold jewelries was not among the listed items sent to the recipient in the U.S.A.
He said the offences, the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges in the open Court and Chief Magistrate, Folashade Botoku granted her N200,000 bail with two surties in like sum.
Botoku adjourned the case till 14 July, for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Lion Building Division in compliance with the COViD 19 protocols till she perfected the bail conditions.
