The female Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ilasan Divison, Lekki, Lagos, CSP Onyinye Onwuamaegbu have arrested a one chance robbery suspect with gun while he and three others now at large were robbing a victim Identified as Ebenezer Sossou inside their
unregistered Toyota Corolla Car along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in broad day light at about 2 pm.
A police source alleged that the incident occurred when the DPO was on a routine patrol of her jurisdiction with her men and sighted a parked unregistered Toyota Corolla car along the Lekki- Epe Expressway with the occupants struggling inside and screaming.
Suspecting the car and the occupants, the DPO ordered her men to stop and find out what was going on inside the car.
On sighting the officer, four men scampered out of the car and took to their heels and abandoned Sossou.
The police chased after them and succeeded in arresting one of them identified as Sefiu Fasina with a locally made gun.
The police rescued the victim and took him, the arrested suspect and the suspect’s car to the station.
Narrating his ordeals to the Police, Sossou said he boarded the suspect’s car at Lakowe area of ibeju Lekki to Gbaja area of Lekki as a passenger and that on getting to Igboefon area of Lekki, the suspects stop their car and brought out a gun to rob him of his LG VIO handset valued N65,000, adding that he was still struggling with the suspects when the DPO and his men arrived the scene to rescue him.
During investigation, the suspect, Fasina allegedly confessed to the crime that he was a robbery suspect and that he and his fleeing colleagues namely, Samuel, Sodiq and Taye robbed the victim inside their car, adding that he had only participated in two robbery operations with his colleagues during which he was given N6,000 and N5,000.
Fasina was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court on a five count charge of armed robbery.
Count two of the charge reads that you Sefiu Fasina, 18 and others still at Large on 6 August, 2020 at about 2000hrs did attack one Ebenezer Sossou and robbed him of his LG VIO handset armed with gun.
The plea of the accused was not taken and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ojuromi directed the Police Counsel, Cyriacul Osiuji to forward the case file to the Department of ddPublic Prosecution’s Office (DPP) for advice.
Ojuromi adjourned the case to 22 October, 2020 for mention and DPP’s report.
