Litigant who throng the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, daily to attend to their matters at the court have appeared to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state and the Chief judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba to as a matter of urgency direct the cleaners at the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos to revert to the old fees of N50 and N30 being charged for toilet and urinating at the court and stop collecting N100 and N50 for toilet and urinating.
They said the new fees being charged by the cleaners at the court is not only denting the image of the State Government at the Court, but also inflicting pains on the litigants and court uses using the Court.
Some of those who spoke with 4eyenews at the Court said that the fees for toilet and urinating at the Court since 2010 when the new Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court was inaugurated had been N50 and N30, but that they were surprised the new cleaners who resumed duty at the Court recently suddenly jerked up the fees to N100 and N50 for toilet and urinating without commensurate maintenance of the toilet as offensive odour usually oozed out from the toilets and polluting the court premises.
They said they are also surprised that while private toilet operators and those at the High Court, Tinubu Magistrate Court are still charging N50 and N30 from toilet users, the cleaners at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court are making life unbearable for litigants at the Court by collecting N100 and N50 for toilet and urinating.
They therefore appealed to the State Government to urgently revert the fees to N50 and N30 to alleviate the pains toilet user are passing through at the Court.
According Mr. Timothy Okeke, a litigant , ‘’I am appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Justice Alogba to divert the cleaners at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court to revert to the old fees of N50 and N30 and stop collecting N100 and N50 from toilet users and ensure they clean the toilets always with disinfectants to reduce the offensive odour oozing out from the toilets, ‘’Okeke stated.
Effort to contact the manager in charge of the toilets at the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos for comments was not successful In a related development , law years, Litigants and court users have appealed to Governor Baba Jide Sanwo-olu to repair all the broke down air conditioners at the 22 Court rooms at the Igbosere chief magistrate`s Court, Lagos to reduce the intense heat affecting magistrates court during court proceedings.
Some of those who spoke with 4eyesnews at the court recently said that all air conditions at the court were working perfectly between 2010 when the court was rebuild and commissioned till 2015 when different technicians recruited to over haul the air conditioners allegedly damaged them due to incompetence.
They appealed to governor Sanwo-Olu to fix the faulty air conditioners with qualified technicians to enable magistrates, lawyers and litigants conduct court proceeding in a conducive atmosphere when 4eyesnews some of the court room recently lawyers and litigants were seen cleaning there face with handkerchief and others using papers to fan themselves due to the intense heat inside the court rooms.
