Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad, FSARS, in Lagos deployed to Ondo State, Southwest, Nigeria by the Commissioner of Police, CP Fimihan Adeoye have arrested the alleged gang leader of a five man car snatching gang.
The suspect, identified as Promise Yinka Oyinloye had been terrorizing, robbing and snatching cars from owners in Ondo town, Ore, Ipetu Ijesha, Edo and Oyo State.
Other suspects arrested alongside Oyinloye were Olufemi Olamide and the alleged receiver of the stolen cars based in Kaduna State, Musliu Abdulazeez.
According to a Police source, nemesis caught up with the suspects in April, 2020 when CP Fimihan Adeoye received a distress call from one Ifeoluwa Fagbohunka, a resident of Italu Rogbo area of Ondo State that about three suspected robbers attacked him and snatched his Toyota Camry with Reg. number LND313FB, mobile phone, and other valuables from them.
The source further said that following intelligence gathering, Festus and his team tracked the stolen car to Kwara State and recovered it from the gang who was said to be looking for a lawyer for the car.
The police brought the suspect and the recovered car back to Ondo.
During investigation, according to the police, Oyinloye allegedly confessed to the crime and said that he was the leader of a five man gang that had been robbing an snatching cars Ondo State, Ore, Edo and Oyo State for about three years.
Ouinloye led the police to arrest Oluwafemi in Ondo State and their alleged receiver Musliu Abdullazees in Kaduna State, while others managed to escaped.
In his confession, Abdullazees allegedly state have been buying stolen cars from Oyinloye and his gang for long, and selling them in Kaduna State and I know that the cars the suspects were selling for me were stolen cars, but I promise to stop buying stolen cars if I am set free, Abdulazzees allegedly pleaded.
A police source said that the arrested suspects would be charged to court after conclusion of investigation.
