The Police at the Maroko Division Lekki, Lagos have arrested an International footballer, Chimezie Mba, 33, and arraigned him before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly refusing to pay his hotel bills when demanded by the hotel management.
Police further accused Mba of assaulting three workers of the hotel by stabbing one Sikiru Sosanya with a knife and beating up two other female workers, Nicola Akorah and Lizzy Akorah for allegedly asking him to pay the hotel bills.
The accused was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court on a three count charge bordering on obtaining service fraudulently and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Police counsel, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji told the court in charge No. H/16/2020 that the accused committed the offence on 23 July, 2020 at H3 Luxury Cottage located at Anjorin Street, Lekki Phase I, Lagos.
Osuji informed the court presided over by Magistrate, A. O Erinle that the accused lodged at the Hotel and ate food but that when the management of the hotel presented a bill of N1,300,000 for him to pay before he could check out of the hotel, he assaulted three workers of the hotel and stabbed one of them with a knife for daring to ask him to pay for the hotel bills.
He said the offences the accused committed were punishable under sections 173, 172 and 314(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence and Magistrate, Erinle granted him N500,000 bail with two surties in like sum.
Erinle adjourned the case till 27 August, 2020 for mention and ordered that the defendant be kept at the Maroko Police Division, Lekki, Lagos in compliance to the COVID-19 protocols till he perfected the bail conditions.
