The police at the Ikoyi Division, Lagos State have arrested Mr. Nwaru Jerry Nnamdi, 34, the branch manager of Access Bank Plc, for allegedly stealing his employer`s N14m through cash surpassing in the bank’s ATM Vault refilling.
A Police Source alleged that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Ikoyi station, CSP Tijani Mustapha N`abba directed his men led by Inspector Afolayan Babashola to arrest the suspect following a complaint by the management of Access Bank Headquarters.
The suspect was arraigned before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate`s Court on a four count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, but the presiding magistrate , Mrs K.O Doja Ojo declined to entertain the matter on the ground that the charged did not fall into the category of the COVID 19, emergency cases approved for the court to handle.
Police alleged that the suspect betrayed the trust reposed on him by his employer as the manager in charged of the Ketu Branch of Access Bank and stole the sum of N14m through cash surpassing in an ATM Vault refilling.
Nemesis, however, caught up with him when the forensic auditors at the bank`s Headquarters audited the account books and it was discovered that the suspect allegedly stole the money between May and December 2019 through false accounting.
Meanwhile, the magistrate have directed the police to return the suspect back to the station and bring him back to the court after the COVID 19 crisis for proper arraignment.
