Two suspected fraudsters have been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates Court for allegedly hacking into the account of Wema Bank Plc and fraudulently withdrew the sum of N4, 075, 000 and allegedly shared it.
The suspect are: Emeka Onumba, 36 from Anambra state and Nonso Okereke, 19, from Imo State, Southwest Nigeria.
A police source alleged that nemesis caught up with the accused persons when the management of Wema Bank uncovered the alleged fraud and reported the matter to the Divisional Police Office, DPO incharge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, Lagos who directed his team led by SGT. Gboyega Oyeniyi to track and arrest the suspects.
The police arrested the accused at a hideout in Lagos after several weeks of manhunt.
The accused were charged before the Igbosere magistrates Court on a two count of stealing.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Ingobo Emby told the court in charge No W/21/2019 that the accused committed the offense in January, 2019 at Wema Bank Plc Headquarters, 54, Marina Street, Lagos Island, Lagos Emby informed the court that the accused person hacked into the account of Wema Bank to fraudulently transfer the sum of N4, 075, 000 to their various account from where they withdrew the money and allegedly shared it.
He said the offenses, the accused committed were punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Magistrate A.O Alogba granted them bail in the sum of N400, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum who must have N500,000 in their bank account.
Alogba adjourned the case till 25 February , 2020 for Continuation of trial.
